Kelsey + Logan – Cedar Falls, Iowa – Family Session

This is why we do EVERYTHING we do as moms. So our kids have a person who they love and trust fully with their whole being. Someone who will show genuine interest and joy over the littlest things. The love and excitement shared between these two and witnessing moments like this as a photographer is so healing to my own inner child. My clients are the best safe havens and parents. I love my job.

We’ve all had those days at work where things feel a bit routine. But somedays I’ll be sitting at my desk and I’ll come across that shot. You know the one—the one where the light hits just right, but more importantly, where the connection is so palpable it transcends the screen.

Suddenly, I’m not just “doing my job.” I’m sitting there a sobbing mess.

As moms, we talk a lot about the “mental load” and the endless to-do lists. We talk about the exhaustion. But we don’t always talk about the why. The core reason we push through the tired mornings and the chaotic schedules.

We do everything we do so that our children grow up knowing they have a sanctuary in us. We strive to be the person they trust fully with their whole being; the one who doesn’t just “watch” them grow, but who shows genuine interest and unbridled joy over the littlest things. A new drawing, a funny face, or a scraped knee that needs a specific kind of magic to heal. It ALL matters.

Witnessing the love and excitement shared between the families I photograph is more than just professional fulfillment; it’s deeply personal. There is something incredibly healing for my own inner child when I capture a parent being a “safe haven.”

I often say I have the best job in the world, and I mean it. To the parents who trust me to document these fleeting, sacred years: THANK YOU! Thank you for being the kind of parents who provide that safety. Thank you for letting me into your bubble of trust. You aren’t just “clients”. You are examples of the kind of love that changes the world. Something we all need a reminder of right now.

AND — just a reminder: Your kids don’t need a perfect parent; they need a present one. You’re doing the best job ever. I PROMISE!
